Navigating Diversity – Insights from Racialized EDI and HR Professionals

Join the discussion about the experiences of racialized EDI and HR professionals.

Together, we’ll examine what racialized individuals encounter in a work environment, narrowing in on how they would love to be seen vs. the reality of common perceptions.

We will start off with a Panel Discussion featuring Translink’s newly appointed Director of Workforce Planning and Talent Acquisition: Rubina Mahal, and Senior Manager for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at City of Burnaby: Vishad Deeplaul – followed by Q&A, breakout rooms, and enriching conversation.

Walk away with strategies and approaches for all individuals to be seen for their skillset, professionalism, and what they bring to the table.

Ensure that all people are valued for who they are, beyond the color of their skin.

*The Panel Discussion will be recorded if you can’t make it live

Rubina is Translink’s newly appointed Director of Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning in Vancouver BC.

Before joining Translink, Rubina was the first-ever Director of Strategic Recruitment, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion with Providence Health Care. While in healthcare, Rubina made significant advances in creating transparent and equitable hiring practices.

She stumbled into Human Resources after spending time in journalism and social justice. In all her professional roles, Rubina brings her lived experience which has helped inform the work she does. She strives to eliminate barriers to employment, especially for those who have historic discrimination.

Rubina is proudly raising two feminists and strives to empower women to use their voices and advocate for continual change in the workplace.

Vishad Deeplaul brings extensive experience in the field of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the workplace. A true advocate for change, he has lent his voice to support many women’s groups and marginalized people in South Africa, the country where he was born and raised.

Vishad’s experience with non-profit organizations in BC holds him in good stead for his role as the new Senior Manager for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for the City of Burnaby.

Vishad’s first-hand experience in driving change has contributed to his passion for EDI. Together with his husband, they sparked constitutional change in South Africa in support of equal treatment for all fathers. Changing South African history is one of his proudest accomplishments as he explains here.
