Meet Jasmine Garcha.

Jasmine Garcha is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, a Health and Lifestyle Blogger, and the founder of Holistic Jazz—a platform dedicated to creating awareness about chronic health conditions, mental illness, food intolerances and holistic wellness. Basically, “All that Holistic Jazz”! She is passionate about creating awareness and educating others on thriving through a holistic lifestyle. Jasmine is an intuitive and expressive storyteller who utilizes her true, raw and authentic story of overcoming mental and invisible illnesses to empower others. She is also a holistic health enthusiast, smoothie bowl addict, sports fanatic, adventure seeker, and aspiring traveler!

Jasmine describes herself as being a woman who has seen the light through the darkness: a woman who is motivated by life experiences of being dubbed a medical mystery. Through her trials and tribulations with chronic illness and pain, she has found healing through holistic wellness. Jasmine is an intuitive storyteller who uses her true, raw, authentic voice to share a glimpse into the highs and lows of her ongoing life journey. She is a woman who is finding her way to wellness: a woman who is empowered and dedicated to breaking the stigma against invisible illnesses, and creating a world where it is okay to not be okay. Jasmine is a beautiful soul who is going against the grain and following her soul’s true calling.

So tell us, Jasmine: What inspires you most? What motivates you to get up every morning?

Embracing the unknown and trusting my soul journey inspires me to get up each morning and connect with my inner self. By doing so, I am able to be present and aware of what is going on within and around me. I am able to be true to myself and live to my fullest potential.

How do you feel that your actions teach or inspire others?

By being my true, raw, and authentic self, I am able to utilize my voice to empower others. I am very vocal about all of the real stuff that encompasses mental and invisible illnesses, and I utilize my voice to show the world the reality of living with these conditions in hopes of creating awareness and empowering others. I feel that by being my true self, I am able to show others that it’s okay to not be okay, and it’s absolutely okay to embrace your shadow side.

What is one change you’d like to see in the world?

Breaking the stigma against mental illness.

Which of your contributions to date have given you the greatest sense of pride?

Above all, I am most proud of finding the strength to be able to speak my authentic truth. I am proud of finding my voice and publicly sharing my personal mental and invisible health journey on my blog to empower others.

I believe that the work that we do on ourselves, for ourselves, to better ourselves, is the contribution that we should be most proud of. I am also very proud of many of my contributions within the community, such as the volunteer work that I have done with various arts and non-profit cancer organizations, as well as the funds that I have raised for various organizations. I am also really happy with my work as a youth worker, and working with inner city kids.

Many conversations these days have been about how women feel like they are stuck or are putting everyone else’s needs before their own.

Take a deep breath.

It is a place many women have been to especially as they are trying to manage family responsibilities, feeling guilty for taking time out for themselves or even spending money on themselves.

As we grow older so do our parents. Some parents have been able to be self-sufficient in this country while others needed someone to interpret for them or drive them places. There comes a time when the parents need more of our support than ever before.

We have tried so hard to make them happy. We get the good jobs, make good money, get married, have kids, drive the nice cars, live in the nice house but this life doesn’t feel like it is totally our life. It kind of feels like the life they wanted for themselves. It feels like we are living their dream life, not our own.

Is this something you or someone you know can relate to?

So now that you are aware that you may be living your one of your parent’s life, how can you gain control of your life? How can you start to live the life that you want to live?

It is really important to check in with yourself as to:
1. What do you want your life to look like in all areas of your life?
2. What are three things that you have always wanted to do but have been waiting for the right time, more money or when you are… (fill in the blank)?
3. What is one action you can take towards the life that you want? Who do you need to call? What do you need to research? What trip do you need to plan?

I dare you, double dare you. Take that step now toward your dream life.

If you are clear with the type of life you want, then you will have it.

Yes your parents will need you but put your needs first and build in quality time with them into your schedule so you are always practicing self-first while having the most joyful and loving relationship with them.

Honouring our bodies

How is it you honour your body?

Do you take the necessary time to relax and rejuvenate?

It is the cold/flu season right now. I have been sick on and off for the last three weeks. I have a nice husky voice at the moment that may not really sound like me.

I realized how much I have not honoured my body by not allowing it the rest and rejuvenation that it needed. I have been working long hours as I am really passionate about what I am doing. Admist these long hours, I neglected the passion for honouring my body.

I was forced to cancel a three day vacation of rest and rejuvenation at a small resort as I didn’t have the energy to get on the ferry. Instead I am resting and rejuvenating in the comfort of my own home. I realized that this is the better way for me to rest and rejuvenate as I am learning how to incorporate this into my daily lifestyle.

This lesson did cost me the deposit on the resort and the fact I am sick. It was an important lesson for me to learn. I just have compassion for myself and will incorporate the honouring of my body into my daily routine.
